Face Makeup Preparation Techniques
Before anyone can start any form of facial makeup, one must consider the
face texture (i.e how rough or smooth the face is), if the face has an
even tone or not, one must also know if one has a dry or oily skin and
finally if one easily reacts to skin products or if your skin works with
any product.
Knowing all this will help to determine the kind of products to use on a particular person, in what proportion e.g lesser amount of foundation/concealer for a smooth face, and the right shades.
Before I start my makeup, I do what is called face preparation which includes:
1. Cleansing:
cleansing is the first and an essential step in makeup. It involves using a good facial cleanser and a cotton wool to cleanse the face before makeup and even after taking your makeup off.
It doesn't matter if one has had a bath, cleansing is a must do, as the cotton wool gets closer to the pores on the face and better cleanses the face than just washing with soap, because no matter how much or for how long you bath, there is still an amount of dirt that comes off the face when you cleanse and we don't want dirt interfering with the outcome of our makeup.
Cleansing can also be done with a facial wipe in a case where there is no cleanser and cotton wool.
2. Moisturizing:
As the name implies, moistirizing is a process of using a moisturizer to add moisture to the face. A good moisturizer is used to awaken the face especially in a case of a dry skin.
A dry skin would push makeup off the face. A dry skin would make the makeup cracky and rough so a moisturizer is applied to add some moisture to the face and make the face soft enough for the makeup to stick onto the face.
3. Priming:
A good face primer is the next item on the list in our preparation technique. A face primer helps to smoothen the face for an even spread of product and gives the makeup a smooth surface to glide on.
A primer is applied before foundation and this helps to reduce and control the amount of oil the face will secrete by tightening the pores on the face and locking in the facial oil, thereby making the makeup to last all day or atleast a longer period of time.
4. Mattefying:
A mattefier is a stronger type of primer. A mattefier is a face primer for people with extremely oily skin. Facial oil makes makeup messy and shiny so a mattefier helps to further tighten or block the pores on the face and prevents oil from destroying the makeup.
It keeps the face dry enough for the makeup to last long. The mattefier in a case of an oily skin is worn in place of the primer also before the foundation.
After all these is done, the face is ready for the actual makeup.
